For complete orthodontic treatment, we may need to use various supplementary types of appliances and accessories throughout the course of your care at our Forest Park, IL office. These include:
- Elastics (Rubber Bands)
- Herbst and MARA Appliances
- Palatal Expanders
- Separators (Spacers)
Rubber bands help to better line up your upper and lower teeth with each other by pulling the bottom jaw either forward or backward, depending on the current state of your bite. It’s important to wear your rubber bands as advised for optimal results.
Headgear is used to remedy an overbite or underbite. By exerting some pulling force on the teeth, headgear prevents further protrusion.
Herbst and MARA appliances can help patients who are experiencing overbite. They work by simultaneously moving your lower jaw forward and upper jaw backward. If we can intervene early enough with these appliances, we can help your child possibly avoid full braces.
Palatal expanders helps to create more space in the upper jaw by pushing out the upper molars.
Positioners can put the final touches on your orthodontic treatment. When worn properly, positioners are generally only worn for one or two months.
Retainers help your smile keep its new shape once treatment with braces is complete.
Separators are small, thin, round rubber pieces that are placed between teeth to create space for orthodontic braces.
